Chevron Zigzag Ripple Afghan!

I love crocheting large pieces where I can just "zone out" and have a meditative moment while my hands do all the work. So it wasn't hard for me to decide to make yet anóther afghan, although a little smaller this time. It was meant as a couch blanket to snuggle under and not as a full one person bedspread. I had fallen in love with this gorgeous aqua blue yarn and desperately wanted to create something with it. After much deliberation, I decided to combine the aqua with a warm cream color (pure white was too "cold") and added a third color (dark gray) to help offset the two main colors a bit.

To be honest, I can't remember how long it took me to crochet the complete afghan - these projects are always spread out over weeks and months in those forgotten little hours. But I cán tell you how big it got when it was finally finished: it measures approximately 126x136cm (63x68 inches)!

The beginning can be quite tricky because the zigzags go all over the place! Once you have done a couple of rows the afghan gets more "solid" and tends to keep its shape better, giving you a better idea of what the end result is going to look like.

Working those zigzags!

Work-In-Progress: look at all the yarn ends I still have to weave in! Brrrrr....

The finished product! I decided to straighten off the edges. I love the chevron zigzag look of the pattern, but don't really care for it on the edge.

Here a shot of it casually laying on the couch. It's such a patient model!

And here it is on my favorite purple chair. I love that color combination!

My mom demonstrates how the afghan looks as a seat cover. This is where it currently lives!

Want to make your own zigzag afghan? You could try this free pattern. It's not the one I used (can't find that one on the web anymore...) and it is for pillows and not an afghan, but the zigzag pattern is clearly explained, so just make it a little bigger!
